Senior Accountant
Corporate Part-Time
The Senior Accountant is expected to exercise
independent judgment to perform a full range of
accounting duties. Work is performed within a framework
of established procedures and with only occasional
instruction or assistance. The position requires
professional accounting training and experience, has
broader decision-making authority, and performs
difficult and complex financial work that involves
discretion and independent judgment, receives general
supervision from Finance Department management and
provides technical and functional support to Junior
Accountant and Accounting Assistant. Duties may
include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Prepares journal entries, maintains and reconciles
general and subsidiary ledger accounts.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare
entries to GL accounts.
- Prepares and maintains records based on accounting
internal control procedures.
- Reviews, analyzes, and audits financial records and
transactions to ensure completeness and accuracy of
information and calculations; prepares journal entries
for adjusting and correcting records as necessary.
- Prepares monthly bank reconciliations, account
reconciliations and related schedules as needed to
ensure accounting records are accurate.
- Monitors and Analyzes Community contract billings vs.
postings to GL.
- Reviews and analyzes community contract budgets against
actual billings and prepares budget modification if
needed to ensure adherence to the budget.
- Analyzes financial documentation processes to ensure
accuracy of financial reporting and recommends changes
as necessary.
- Provides technical support for audits; conducts
research, provides analyses, and prepares audit
schedules for independent auditors.
- Assists in monthly reports preparation and month-end
processes.
- Assists with Financial reporting involving preparation
of monthly reports to management, Board of Directors,
Health Care Agency (HCA) and other contract providers as
required beyond contract compliance billings, as well as
preparation of annual audit work papers with supporting
documentation and preparation of HCA annual cost report.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting and two years related
experience in accounting. Working knowledge
of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and
QuickBooks required. Working knowledge of Medi-Cal
and commercial insurance billing preferred. Work
and training experience with non-profit organization
accounting preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and
interpret financial reports and all applicable
regulations. Ability to write clear and concise
reports, business correspondence, and procedures with
conformance to the prescribed style and format. Ability
to effectively present information orally and in writing
in one-on-one, small group, and large groups situations,
including the ability to effectively respond to
questions from small and large groups of employees, and
managers. Ability to work with balance sheets,
profit/loss statements, and financial statements /
reports. Ability to accurately calculate figures and
amounts and to apply concepts such as fractions,
percentages, ratios, proportions, discounts, and
interest to practical situations. Evaluate situations,
identify problems, and exercise sound independent
judgment within established guidelines. Effectively and
accurately analyze data and information using
established criteria. Prepare accurate,
comprehensive, and precise financial statements,
reports, and analyses.
